A Year with the Carnies – Part Two Conclusion

I only did this for one season. I would watch them put up and tear down the carnivals – that’s where the money was. They would run the games and stay till the end and then they would get money for tearing all the rides down. I didn’t do it but they did. Aaron and Autumn would do that wherever they could. There was always work for people who were willing to do that. They would try to get there before the carnival and work with the setup, have a game during the carnival, and then stay there and help tear down and get paid for the setup and tear down. I was right there in the same place so I would watch them put it up and tear it down.

I remember when we would travel state to state every time we would see a Walmart Evette would say “that’s where I got my shoes”. She had bought new shoes in Walmart and all the stores look the same, so every time she saw one she would say “that’s where I got my shoes”. We would all laugh because she remembered what the Walmart look like but she didn’t realize she was in a different state and the different town. All she knew was that was Walmart and that’s where she got her shoes! She was so cute. She turned out to be a really beautiful young lady. Evette is my son’s half-sister. She is born to the sister of my ex-husband. Mark’s dad went with Abra and had Evette. What’s pretty interesting is that Abra and Devin were 20 years apart. I think she was 18 and he was 48 or so, and they got together and had Evette. They stayed together for about five years. They may have stayed together longer but Devin liked to smack women around. I don’t know how he is now but then…

I saw psychic in Indiana when we are at a fair. Me and the girls was walking around and I had a little bit of money so I thought I’m gonna go see that psychic and fortuneteller. And the girls said we’ll go with you but they didn’t have any money but I had money so I did it. And the psychic was reading my palm and the girls was standing behind me – the daughters of Aaron and Autumn. And the psychic said “the people that you’re staying with is bad people.” And I knew the girls heard it but I hoped that they didn’t hear it. Then when we was walking away, the girls asked me what she said, and I said “I’m not for sure what she said.” I didn’t want them going back to their mom and dad and saying that the fortuneteller said that her mom and dad were bad people. It was our first day there so I don’t think that the fortuneteller knew who their parents were. I don’t know that she necessarily knew that I was staying with the people but that’s what she said. She just said that they were bad people and I didn’t understand because I didn’t think they were bad people that I knew of. But I learned the hard way that with carnies things aren’t always what they seem.

In the end Abra and Autumn had a fallout and we ended up going back to Ohio. I felt bad about that because I actually should’ve stayed there with Abra and helped her with Evette. Because when I left Abra and her man had to work and the kids were left alone. I mean the baby wasn’t alone because Evette was there but she was only five or six years old. I went with Aaron and Autumn because I was from Ohio and that was my ride. I knew Abra, but Aaron and Autumn were my people. The only reason that I got to stay in the camper is because I was helping with Abra’s kids and they came in the camper.

What convinced me that they were bad people is that once we return to Ohio I had a room in their house. I got a job there – I found some work so I was working and I was living at their house and paying rent. And when I come in my room the clothes in my closet would be spread apart so I would close them back up. And then finally I come in and I realize the reason why the cloth were always spread out was because there was a hole in the wall from their room to my room and they was spying on me. It was sickening. It was really gross. They must’ve been watching me change – I come out of the shower with the towel on, and pick out what I was going to wear – I had no idea I was being watched – so I don’t know if I was picking my nose or what I was doing – I don’t know! And not only was there a hole, there actually there was two holes. There was a whole between the cloths in the closet, and there was a whole behind a Harley Davison picture on the wall. I thought the picture was really nice so I never did move it. Come to find out that right on the corner of the Harley Davison picture there was a great big giant hole. I never did move the picture because I thought that it was an awesome picture and I think they realized I really like that picture so I wasn’t going to take it down and then they put the whole behind it. And they had been watching me.

But I know one thing they was watching me doing, I was hidey my money in that room. I probably lost money and didn’t know it. They was watching exactly where I was putting it. I would leave and some of it would be gone and I wouldn’t count it. After I found out that the whole was in the room, I went and told the guy who owned the house. I said “did you know they cut a hole in the wall from the bedroom to my room and they been watching me?” and he got more mad about them cutting the holes in his walls than them watching me!

Autumn and Aaron found out that I found out about the hole being in the wall that I didn’t know about before. I found out because I heard them making a new hole. I found stone and powder and stuff from the wall and I thought “what’s going on” after I got suspicious and started looking around and realize I was being watched. The boy was making the new whole down lower by the dresser from his mom and dad’s room. He was like nine or 10 years old. I think he seen them doing it so he was doing it too. That’s how I found out. The best way for her to solve it was just to move me out. They had everything I owned packed up – they packed it all up – took it in the minivan up the hill and throwed it all out on the porch at husband’s house. I came home that day and all my stuff was gone and some of my stuff wasn’t there. Whatever they decide they wanted to keep they just kept when they went through it. The psychic was right. They was bad people!
